REFERENCE CASES

This section of the website presents the Indisputable Key reference cases: how traceability solutions were deployed in these industrial conditions and for which added value.

> Traceability for mutual benefits in the wood supply chain
> Traceability for improved wood procurement and production in a plywood mill
> Automatic and reliable stock management in a oak sawmill

>Traceability in a multi-stakeholder scenario: Swedish Wood Supply Chain from Forest to window framings.

At the SWSC the whole traceability chain, from forest through saw mill to secondary manufacturer were demonstrated during the project. The following presentations and industrial testimonies will discuss the use of traceability technologies and solutions and the benefits they create for forest-based companies: here Sveaskog and Setra.

Introduction to Traceability solution from forest to the wood component – Anders Lycken (SP, Sweden)

Anders Lycken

This presentation discusses traceability in the Swedish Wood Supply Chain. It explains some of the technical solutions as well as some of the possible benefits for the stakeholders of the supply chain.

Traceability solution from forest to the wood component – in the FOREST
Christer Ranvald (Sveaskog, Sweden)

Christer RanvaldThe benefits of traceability for a forest company are presented in several parts.
Firstly, the traceability from harvester to log scaling gives us the means to monitor the performance of the harvesting team on measurement, damages and sorting which allows us to take the appropriate actions to minimize lost value due to quality losses.
Secondly, traceability within the sawmill will help the sawmill company to tune the process for higher value yield and eventually fulfil the prerequisites that are needed for improved production control. The benefit for Sveaskog as a forest company mainly is that the customer (sawmill) gets more profitable, competitive and valuates the supplied logs even higher.
Thirdly, when the forest company is partnering with the sawmill company in joined efforts to improve the overall efficiency of the forest-wood chain, traceability allows for improving the customer orientation already at harvesting. This means that models of quality within the trees can be built from real data and better adaption of the log types to the end use can be made in the harvesting operation.

Traceability solution from forest to the wood component – in the SAWMILL
Bo Andersson (Setra Group, Sweden)

Bo AnderssonSetra’s saw mill in Malå has been one of the scenes for installations and data collection in the Indisputable Key project. The saw mill’s benefits with a traceability system is discussed here, with examples of business cases possible to reach, mainly within the saw mill, but also when looking upstream, to the supplier of logs, and downstream, to the customer, the buyer of the boards.

Jacques DUCERF (Groupe DUCERF, France)

Jacques Ducerf
