WP6 - Software Modules for Integration

The "Digital Forest Chain" - the chain from standing forest to the customers buying wood material products is complicated because it consists of very many participants and interest groups.
Modern Information Technology gives new possibilities to improve the performance of the whole chain.
Task 6.3 will implement the model of information flow through the wood supply chain, from forest to the mill gate, and task 3.3 will design the model through sawmill production to the end customer.
The digitalization supported by the new technologies, like RFID, to collect and save accurate information, combined with other technologies like GIS (Geographical Information Systems), satellite navigation, wireless communication and the internet, give new possibilities to improve the competitiveness of the industry.
The key challenge is to create the concept where all the participants through the long chain can be linked, and only then the optimization of the whole chain can be done.
This will be challenging since there are participants of different sizes at different geographical locations, since the structure of the chain is dynamic, and since the goals and objectives of the participants are commonly conflicting.
In tasks 6.3 the prototypes of the software will be developed, and in the next tasks verified in real supply chain processes.
The major connections of WP6 to other work packages include:
• WP2 (Standards and Architectures) will set up requirements and guidelines for communication and for the system architecture. The effect of these specifications on WP6 (Software Modules for Integration) will be considered in detail to guarantee compliance with the overall plans.
