WP5 - Wood object coding/decoding and object data communication systems The basis for achieving the necessary feedback parameters for a powerful wood industry optimisation is to have primary data associated with each individual log at the time of harvesting. Later in the production chain, technology should be available to update this data and associate new individual data to any refined wood object or package. To facilitate this ubiquitous object coding and identification, the coding cost for each object must be kept at an absolute minimum. This work package will develop technologies for coding of not only logs, but also other wood objects or packages. The overall objective is to develop a concept and industrially verified prototype for coding and decoding of logs, boards and packages and a communication system to enable database data to be associated individually and in real-time with all these items. Hence, any wood object can at any time and anywhere be identified, its data retrieved, interpreted and updated – ubiquitous tracing. The work package will deliver robust coding and decoding (stationary and mobile) systems for logs, boards and packages. It will also deliver the necessary short- and longrange communication system implementations needed for consistent and real-time access to wood object data. The major connections of WP5 (Wood object coding/decoding and object data communication systems) to other work packages include: • WP2 (Standards and Architectures) will set up requirements and guidelines for communication and for the system architecture. The effect of these specifications on WP5 (Wood object coding/decoding and object data communication systems) will be considered in detail to guarantee compliance with the overall plans. |
