Explanation

Individual Associated Data (IAD) means that data concerning an object also contain data from earlier (and later) stages in the process. For example, if the object is a board, IAD of this object will contain its length, width, thickness of the board itself and also length, diameter and quality of the log that it was cut out from. In that case IAD comes in a set of these all characteristics.
Marking and identifying the object in a supply chain gives the access key to the IAD. It is only when the data and the relationship between the items is known that the data becomes useful. IAD can for example be used to improve control of different processes transforming the item in question e.g. a board, a package or a final product. This results in better use of production means – better availability and less energy. IAD can also be used to minimise waste in the production chain by selecting a more suitable forest raw material to minimise waste in following production steps.

Application/Usage in Indisputable KEY

In principle it is easy to give identities to pieces of raw materials, and thereafter change the identity as the raw material is combined in products or transformed into one or more products. The challenge is to make the information resulting from introducing identities available in a readable format for computers. In Indisputable KEY technology and systems will be developed that makes it able to trace products from forest to the wood processing industry. This includes technology for marking individual items or batches, for registering the marks along the supply chain, for communication between information systems and for analyses of the production, warehousing and transportation services.
Studies based on the IAD, calculating the cost of traceability systems indicate that large profits could be obtained. These studies showed that IAD proved to be a strong possible tool for a future automatic control of both production and raw material parameters. Choosing a more suitable raw material for a specific product can be accomplished using IAD. This will reduce the amount of unwanted by-products and increase the number of happy customers.
Industrial wood traceability systems based on IAD can now be specified for profitable application/s and value-for-money technical installation/s. This is one of the main objectives of Indisputable KEY.

Institutions with teaching capabilities

TietoEnator can provide training on the Indisputable KEY developed concept IAD.

Centre de Recherche Public Henri Tudor (Luxembourg) organizes different training courses for companies interesting by information and communication, business organisation and management, etc. Thus training courses about supply chain management and workflow management using RFID are proposed. These courses may be related to IAD.

Available text books and training material

IAD is a concept developed in the Indisputable KEY project, and there are no public documentation about it yet.

Digital Identity Management – Technological, Business and Social Application ”, David G. W. Birch, 2007 : this book is based on the work of the Annual Digital Forum in London explores the current technology available for identity management, its applications within business, and its significance in wider debates about identity, society and the law. This is an essential reference for commercial organizations seeking to use identity to get closer to customers for those in government at all levels wrestling with online delivery of targeted services as well as those concerned with the wider issues of identity, rights, the law, and the potential risks.
